Can we take June back from this train wreck called Pride Month? I thought of one idea that might help if we can get patriotic Americans moving on it. Simply start getting the 4th of July American Flags out in large numbers during the month of June. If you put out flags for Memorial Day just leave them up the entire month of June.
Every year around Memorial Day I realize we are soon approaching the thing called “Pride Month”. Every year I write about this to remind people how out of balance our national priorities have become. Every year I get called a bigot or worse because of my stance. The definition of a bigot is:
a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.
I assure you that the definition of bigot does not and never has fit me. I’m very reasonable about my beliefs and opinions. If I am antagonistic towards a particular group or subgroup it is well placed. There are people with nonnormative sexual proclivities that do not approve of “Pride Month”. If I hold the same opinion as they do am I a bigot?
I will keep repeating myself on this subject as long as I am able. There is nothing to be “proud” about when it comes to NN’s. If they were born that way it is not a matter of pride. If it is a psychological condition it is not a matter of pride. Why in the world would anyone want to have the main focus of their identity their nonnormative sexuality?
Yes, there are those that say it is not really about “pride”. It is about security for their “identity” or some other rationalization. I don’t care, they picked the word “Pride” and it has a meaning. If they meant something else then change the name. God knows they are experts at adding letters to acronyms. Even if they change the name what the devil is this whole month for? Good grief, as Charlie Brown would say.
Like my buddy Mac says, it isn’t just acceptance they want. They want you to celebrate their hedonism. Look, the last thing I want people to remember me for is my sexuality. Sure, I’m straight but who cares about that? I want to be remembered as a Christian, a Veteran, a good father, a person of integrity and so on. It must be working because someone I did not know came to me for help last week. They said “I understand you are a man of integrity and reasonable” and then went on to make their request for help known. Now, I may be tempted to be proud of that but I am not. I am humbled. I know if there is anything good in me it is a gift from God.
PS Nobody is suggesting we treat nonnormative people badly. Their suicidal ideation rate rivals that of veterans. I will not add to their burden but I will not celebrate them either.
