I saw a Douglas Macgregor on Tucker Carlson Monday night making a good point about the use of the regular military to defend our border with Mexico. Here is where the clip begins. I don’t know how long this video will be up since YouTube has a habit of removing these things.

I did some research and found Exclusions to the often cited Posse Comitatus Act that appear to support Macgregor’s assertions. Below is an excerpt of the exclusions.

  • Support roles under the Joint Special Operations Command.
  • Enforcement of federal law at the discretion of the President of the United States, such as with the 101st Airborne Division by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to integrate Little Rock Central High School in 1957.
  • Provide surveillance, intelligence gathering, observation, and equipment for domestic law enforcement on operations such as drug interdiction and counter-terrorism

Col Macgregor contends the Guard is great as follow-on troops but the border should first be brought under control by the regular military. As long as the military is not being used against US citizens there is no problem. He also contends that the military’s job is to primarily protect the United States. How can anyone disagree with this clear thinking logic? If the Germans Japanese in WW II were able to mount a full-scale assault against us by land or by sea does that mean we should have only used the National Guard? Ridiculous.
