This happened during World War 1 to a Democratic coalition of political parties sidelined by the Russian Communist Bolsheviks coup which created the Soviet Union, a Marxist government. George Washington and our greatest patriot/statesmen have realized the importance of religion in its relationship to the welfare of its countryman. Religion and democracy are inseparable. I worked in Venezuela from 1979 to 2003 when Chavez’ National Guard made travel there untenable. I saw Venezuela go from a prosperous state to a brutal dictatorship. Hugo Chavez used thugs to destroy opponents. He got rid of any reasonable police, corrupted those who stayed and used his thugs to intimidate the populace.
