Vets for Trump is committed to the truth. Some things cannot be known with absolute certainty. Some things can.

Fact 1:

The Governor of Alabama in 1965 was George Wallace, a Democrat. He served as the state’s 45th governor from 1963 to 1967, and again from 1971 to 1979, and is perhaps best known for his staunch segregationist views and his opposition to the Civil Rights Movement. In 1965, Wallace famously vowed to “stand in the schoolhouse door” to prevent the integration of the University of Alabama, before ultimately stepping aside following federal intervention.

Fact 2:

The Mayor of Selma, Alabama in 1965 was Joseph T. Smitherman, a Democrat. He served as the city’s mayor from 1956 to 2000, making him one of the longest-serving mayors in United States history. Smitherman was in office during the historic Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965, which were a key part of the Civil Rights Movement, and his response to the marches was controversial. While he initially tried to negotiate with the marchers, he ultimately called for police and state troopers to use force to break up the demonstrations, leading to the infamous “Bloody Sunday” incident on March 7, 1965.

Fact 3:

A higher percentage of Republicans voted for the Voting Rights Act compared to Democrats.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was a landmark piece of legislation in the United States that prohibited racial discrimination in voting, particularly in the southern states where such discrimination was rampant. The Act was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on August 6, 1965.

In the House of Representatives, the Voting Rights Act passed by a vote of 333-85, with 78% of Democrats and 82% of Republicans voting in favor. In the Senate, the Act passed by a vote of 79-18, with 73% of Democrats and 94% of Republicans voting in favor.

Fact 4:

Joe Biden lied in Selma. Biden says the right to vote remains under assault. Insinuating that Republicans are somehow against fair elections. On the contrary, Republicans are the champions of free and fair elections. Biden also continues to spout unproven claims that he was somehow involved in the Civil Rights Movement. That is just one of the whoppers Joe Biden has told over the decades.
