You know you are going to be discussing politics with your relatives this Thanksgiving. It is unavoidable in most cases. Here is my sage advice 🙂

Follow the Four Agreements

  1. Be Impeccable with your word. – Have your facts straight and say what you mean and mean what you say.
  2. Do not make assumptions. – Ask questions of those who take a view counter to yours. It may give both parties insight when questions are posed versus making statements.
  3. Do not take things personally. – You will only make yourself ill and that is going to make the opponent believe they have won the debate. Indigestion sucks after a great meal!
  4. Do the best you can. – You are not going to achieve perfection, no matter how hard you try. Catch yourself when you fail on 1, 2 or 3 above and start over.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
