Invented by Leo Strauss in 1953, reductio ad Hitlerum takes its name from the term used in logic called reductio ad absurdum (“reduction to the absurd”).[4] According to Strauss, reductio ad Hitlerum is a type of ad hominemad misericordiam, or a fallacy of irrelevance. The suggested rationale is one of guilt by association. It is a tactic often used to derail arguments because such comparisons tend to distract and anger the opponent.

  1. The term “fascist” and “been a mainstay of the Democrat Party against their opponents. It is not exclusive to Trump by any means. It has been used against every Republican candidate starting with Sen. Barry Goldwater in 1964.
  2. Trump denies ever saying he wanted generals like Hitler’s but the Atlantic and others continue to lie. It’s easy to quote an unarmed source in a so called private conversation. How can anyone defend against that?
  3. However, I could see Trump saying he wanted loyal generals. Who wouldn’t want this? Since everyone is speculating I will do so below:

Think back to when ISIS was on the news every day during the Obama administration. If you are under 30 you may not recall this but it is true. Trump then visited the troops in Iraq in 2018. The generals at the Pentagon told him it would take years to remove the ISIS Caliphate. The troops in Iraq said a few months.

He said he wondered why the difference. The troops in the field said it was the rules of engagement. Trump cleared that up and the ISIS Caliphate was no more in a few months. So, were the Pentagon generals loyal or honest? No. Maybe that is the root of the rumor.
