As promised in yesterday’s post, here is the rest of the story from SSgt Jason Russo’s mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost loved ones. It is such a tragedy that those who should be deported are killing our citizens and getting away with it. Democrats don’t seem to care. A vote for any D.C. Democrat is a vote for lawlessness and death. They may talk a good game district by district but when they get to Washington they all support each other. We don’t need Iranian’s chanting “Death to America” because that is exactly what the left is trying to do here, kill America. It is time for all good people to #WalkAway from the Democratic Party. What do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? Make no mistake, it is time to choose sides. ~ MSgt Mike Kelly USAF Retired
My son, SSgt. Jason C. Russo joined the U.S Army at 18 and served for over 20 years. He got his AA degree, his Bachelors’s degree and 2 Masters, 1 in mortuary medicine, and 1 in criminal justice all while serving in the Military.
He was a first responder at the pentagon at 9/11. He served 3 tours of duty in Iraq and had received 2 bronzes stars for valor under fire, as well as letters and awards for his work on recovering and documenting the cause of death on a mass burial site, and returning the bodies back to the families in Iraq. He served a 4th tour of duty in Germany where is worked as a liaison officer for soldiers who were wounded in battle, doing preparation to send the soldiers back to the states once medically cleared for travel.
He loved his service time, it defined him and it was who he was. After 20 years and 3 unsuccessful marriages, he had decided to come home. He purchased a home near his brothers and with me his mother and his stepfather, and reunited with his daughter that I was raising in his absence. He had two other daughters that remained with his estranged 2nd ex-wife.
We as a family did not know the extent of all the awards and accolades, field coins and certificates, teaching himself to read, speak and write different languages through his 20 years of service, until after he was killed, when I went through his personal things. He never bragged or boasted or told us of his challenges or his triumphs. We never knew how important his talent and trade were to the Military, or how respected he was among his comrades. He was truly an extraordinary man.
He had hoped to become a murder investigator with the police, however being a single parent of a teenager, he had to readjust his aspirations, and took a job as a correctional officer in a prison, with hopes he would one day become the warden. If you think that sounds far-reaching, you would not have known Sgt Russo, he was one that aimed high and always hit his target.
After just 7 short months, and still not yet adjusted to civilian life, he left work at 12:00 a.m. on his route home, he was riding the new motorcycle that he said was to save gas money, but we all knew it was the excitement of the open road that made him choose. Side note… he had become the President of the Police Motor Cycle group in our town.
The Iranian never saw jail time and absconded to Iran, where he is still residing today.
SSgt Jason C. Russo was a beloved son, brother, and father. We are grateful for the 7 months we got to know the man he grew up to be.
