Veteran Benefits and Crisis Help

Over the past 3 years, we have received many requests for help. We are not equipped to deal with emergencies or provide other assistance. However, in many cases, we have been able to point people in the right direction. Here are a few pointers that might help. This information was gathered from several websites. Please contact us if any of links are broken. We’ll update the changes ASAP.

Veterans Crisis Call Center dial 988 then press 1

The Veterans Crisis Line connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring Department of Veterans Affairs responders through a confidential toll-free hotline, online chat, or text. Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, chat online, or send a text message to 838255 to receive confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Support for deaf and hard of hearing individuals is available.

White House VA Hotline: 1-855-948-2311

Calls are answered by a live agent 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  The hotline is staffed by more than 60 agents who have had extensive training on VA programs and services.  Ninety-three percent of these agents are a Veteran, military family member, caregiver or a survivor.

The White House VA Hotline conducts immediate warm handoffs for at-crisis risk Veterans needing the services of the Veterans Crisis Line.

Trends identified by the hotline will be used to rapidly respond to systemic inefficiencies and empower VA employees to resolve Veteran concerns quickly.

Veterans should continue to use existing VA customer service hotlines:

Applying for Benefits and Resolution

We have received many requests for help in relation to veteran benefits. If you are newly applying for veteran benefits or disability do not try to do it yourself. We have learned that once a veteran has started the process, usually on their own, they encounter delays and other issues. Once the process starts it can be very difficult to get corrections made. Starting off right is key.

Veteran Service Officers (VSO) will help you write and submit your benefits claims to the VA. Their services are free. They will help you gather the information that supports your claim. Once the claim is filed they will help you track the claim through the system. They can also help you file appeals for denied claims.

The Following Organizations have Veteran Service Officers Nationwide

You do not have to be a member of these organization to use their services.

State Veteran Affairs Offices

Every state provides Veteran Service Officers. They will help with VA claims, and they can help you identify benefits available from your state government. Those state benefits can be reduced property taxes, educational benefits, and more.
