My brothers and sisters in arms, to quote William Shakespeare’s Henry V:

“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,”

Psychiatrists and sociologists have been telling us since the mid-1960s that only about 4% of the US eligible population could handle the physical, psychological, and discipline rigors of military life.  Today I read that the number is now 2%.  I think that by any measure, that makes all vets part of an elite group.  With that comes a responsibility.  We all took an oath to defend the Constitution from foreign or domestic enemies, and as a Marine friend of mine reminded me, that oath has no expiration.  We are the few, but we have influence beyond our numbers, and now we need to come to the aid of our President; talk to people, drop truth bombs, put up signs in your yard.  It’s the waning minutes of the third quarter, and we appear to be behind, but even if we aren’t behind, we have to behave as though we are, so pull out all the stops, as 3 November is looming large on the horizon.  Good luck to all of us, we band of brothers.
