A friend posted this on Facebook:
How can it be, that in a city run by minority political elected officials and a police department headed up by minority officers, that the violence in the city is President Trump’s fault?
My reply was:
As you know brother everything’s Trump’s fault. It is very similar to the Ancient Aliens program on the History Channel. The answer to everything in history is aliens. 🙂
Hopefully, most of our audience is familiar with the program on the History Channel. While my comment was meant as a joke, there are a lot of similarities with that non-history History Channel program and media related to politics.
You see, the Ancient Aliens program gives only one side of a woven narrative. It presents a question to which the answer is always “Ancient Alien Theorists Say Yes!” Of course, educated people say Hold on there little doggy! I think you’re reading too much into all of that. Let’s ask an architect or engineer how something was built. Let’s ask an expert that studies medieval art about those items in an old painting. Your credibility is only as good as the experts you present.
The unwillingness to ask ourselves questions about our beliefs is what we are experiencing in the world of politics. The aliens built the pyramids and that’s that according to a friend. Forget about what the facts say. The same is true for those who say Trump is evil. Forget about what the facts say.
The Ancient Aliens program has another result in common with media brainwash people. Those who are sold on an idea will not let it go. As a matter of fact, the harder you try to show people evidence of the truth the harder they fight against it. The old saying comes into play, “perception is as good as reality.” Notice I add “as good as” because perception is NOT reality and savvy people understand that.
Another similarity I will mention is people who agree, create groups to reinforce their beliefs. See a Google search for Ancient Aliens Facebook Groups by clicking here. There are dozens of them. The number and type of media and political Facebook groups dwarfs almost all others. As in media & politics, it becomes a place to pool your collective ignorance on a subject.
The final similarity I will mention is overwhelming you with things to refute. Ancient Aliens does a good job at this just like people from a political point of view. They refuse to see their beliefs fall apart after you have successfully refuted their top claims. There will always be dozens more they will cling to. It is seemingly never-ending. As with media and politics, it is often about money, acceptance, and for many about fame. Not about truth.
I hope that was a fun little take on media and politics 🙂 For those who may be offended please see below. It has nothing to do with how smart you are. It has to do with how much you are willing to think about something and listening to alternative ideas. Don’t take it personally!
Click here for background on how this has nothing to do with intellect.
Side Note: Understand that I am not saying UFO’s or UAP’s as they are now referred to do not exist. Obviously they do. This has zero to do with the validity of the Ancient Aliens program. We, the public, also have no evidence of what these phenomena are.
Falling for this money-making gig (yes, it is mostly about the money) also has nothing to do with intellect. Most of us would agree that Elon Musk is a very bright guy. Back in August 2020, he tweeted out something about the subject.
“The SpaceX boss had tweeted what appeared to be support for conspiracy theorists who say aliens were involved in the colossal construction effort.” This prompted the headline “Egypt tells Elon Musk its pyramids were not built by aliens.”
Mr Musk did later tweet a link to a BBC History site about the lives of the pyramid builders, saying: “This BBC article provides a sensible summary for how it was done.”
Nobody knows if Musk was joking at the time he Tweeted or smoked too much dope. Either way, it goes to show otherwise smart people say stupid things.
