I received an email yesterday from David H. I am guessing he is a veteran. I will try to answer his complaints. His first complaint is about President Trump joking according to The Hill about awarding himself the medal of Honor at a ceremony back in August. I happened to catch that live on TV. Everyone was laughing as Trump was being self-deprecating. He knows what some people think about getting deferments for Vietnam. Here is a link to C-SPAN that includes the video. You can hear the whole audience laughing. Below is the transcript from C-SPAN.

Congratulations as well to this year’s recipients of the Silver Helmet Awards, especially a dear friend who is an inspiration to all Americans: World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Woody Williams. (Applause.) Where’s Woody? Thank you, Woody. You’re looking good Woody. (Laughs.) Woody is looking good. That was a big day – Medal of Honor. Nothing like the Medal of Honor. I wanted one, but they told me I don’t qualify, Woody. (Laughter.) I said, “Can I give it to myself any?” They said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” (Laughter.) Great, great people. These are great, great men and women that get the Congressional Medal of Honor. Thank you, Woody.

If you cannot take a joke you are going to have a very hard time for the next 5 years!

I do not like to make assumptions. However, I must assume that David H. did not see this live. He may have been hearing something on TV or reading something from an online propaganda source like ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and etc. If this is true it helps to explain why David feels the way he does and why President Trump gets so much traction with the term “Fake News.” He shines a spotlight on what has been there for a long time. Fake news is nothing new. President Trump is the first to call it out for what it is. It is even worse in the days of Social Media.

I truly care about my fellow veterans and Americans. Do yourself a favor and go to the source when you see something you think is over the top. Most things that pass as news is really propaganda and opinion! Remember, outrage drives viewers which in turn drives advertising revenue! Follow the money. When it comes to Social Media it is usually crap being spread by “useful idiots” that were influenced by propaganda.

David goes on in part 2 of his email to rant against President Trump for his Vietnam deferments. It is important to note that many thousands of people received deferments. Here are just a few, Bill Clinton, John Wayne, Ted Nugent, Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly. PS I picked out a lot of conservatives so as to not seem partisan. That was another complaint that David H brought up in his email. Hillary Clinton is unknown since we did not draft women. There are many others on the left, right and middle who received deferments.

Here is the bottom line. President Trump has done more for veterans than any other President and that includes those Presidents that served in the military. Nobody in their right mind can dispute that. Add to that he is the Commander in Chief! Isn’t that good enough? To quote a friend that read David’s email, it “Seems like extremes to me. Like all black no white, and like minimize the positive and magnify negative. Anybody can shine the spotlight on where they choose to according to their perception.”

That last statement is so true. It is important to remember that there is a reality beyond our perception. The saying that “perception is reality” is completely false. Your perception is your perception and can often be completely off in relation to reality. Do not allow yourself to be brainwashed by the left-wing haters.
